1918-2012
Viona "Vi" Mae Hader, Community Leader, 93, of Golden, CO passed away peacefully on March 21, 2012. Vi is survived by her sister, Bette Taylor, of Golden, CO. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends that lovingly knew her as "Aunt Vi."
Vi was born on November 25, 1918 in Holdrege, NE. She moved with her family to Golden, CO in 1941. Soon after, Vi joined the Red Cross where she served in hospital recreation and got to know many people including, Bob Hope and Gen. Douglas MacArthur. She spent time in England, Japan and the Philippines. When Vi returned to Golden, CO she began what would become over 60 years of community activism. Her efforts were instrumental in forming the Foothills Art Center. Vi took her love of animals and formed the humane society that later became the Foothills Animal Shelter. She was the first full-time employee of the Golden Chamber of Commerce and later served as the curator for the Astor House. She served on the Jefferson County Historical Commission and was considered one of Golden's Living Landmarks for her work. She was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Vi was a member of Eastern Star for more than 70 years and was active with the First United Methodist Church in Golden, CO.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Golden, CO. Please join us in a celebration of life for our beloved "Aunt Vi."
