KEARNEY -- Rita B. Woods, 92, of Kearney died Thursday (Jan. 28, 2010), at Mother Hull Home in Kearney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m, Monday, at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Matt Koperski officiating. Interment will be at a later date in McCook.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, at the church with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

She was born March 6, 1917 in Columbus, Neb., to Albert and Rosalina (Vanderheiden) Schaaf.

While growing up, she lived in Kearney, where her father was ranch manager for the 1733 Ranch. She also lived in Hastings and McCook, graduating from McCook High School.

On Nov. 7, 1940, she married Earl J. Woods in McCook. They lived in California, Omaha, Kearney, Chadron and Ogallala. She was employed by Kearney Public Schools, Bea's Floral and Kearney Catholic Schools. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and was a Cub Scout leader.

Survivors include her son, James Woods of Kearney; daughter, Linda Myers and husband, Dwain of Auburn, Neb.; three grandchildren, Thomas Myers of Hazel Green, Wis., Timothy Myers and wife Shelly of Lincoln and Samuel Myers of Omaha; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Forgue of McCook.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Myron and Mark Schaaf; and sisters, Angela Budig and Thelma Meyer.
